BY STEPHEN GBADAMOSI
The Bishop of Ibadan North Anglican Diocese and Archbishop of Ibadan Province, His Grace, Most Rev’d. Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe, has called on politicians to strive in the new year to ease the pains of Nigerians.
According to a statement by the Ibadan North Anglican Diocesan Communicator, Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade, on Sunday, Aladekugbe made the call in a sermon he delivered at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan for new year thanksgiving service.
Though the cleric said nobody could stop the progress of his or her fellow men or women, “for only God is the Amighty,” he called for greater attention to the plight of the led
“Quoting from the gospel of St. Matthew, Chapter 2:12, he said: ‘And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.’ King Herod wanted to kill Jesus, but God prevented it.
“Further more, Archbishop Aladekugbe said the gifts of gold, incense and myrrh to Jesus portrayed Jesus as king, priest and preservation of His dead body.

“According to the preacher, the lessons learned from the birth of Jesus Christ and gifts received thought us to give God our heart, time and devotion as well as to honour Him and endure in any situation we find ourselves, assuring
the congregation that God was in full control.
“The cleric admonished the political leaders at all levels to reduce the pains, anger, hunger and insecurity of lives and property of the governed this year.
“He, however, prayed for our leaders and the entire citizenry to serve Nigeria better and be our brothers and sisters’ keepers, wishing all and sundry happy and prosperous new year,” the statement read.
