A Kano State based Non Governmental Organization, (NGO) Democratic Action Group (DAG), has charged women to actively engage in politics by ensuring that, more women are voted into key-political positions in the forthcoming general elections.

The Executive Director of the Group, Dr Mohammed Mustapha, made the call Yesterday in Kano during a two-day Workshop for Women in Political Parties on Gender, Anti-corruption and Accountability.

According to him, active participation of women in politics would reduce marginalization of women folk in decision making which has always limited their opportunities in the society and country at large.

He said, women make up the largest number of voters when it comes to elections worldwide, but that their continual denial into political offices has become a thing of concern to stakeholders.

Mustapha, called on the women to unite for the development of democracy in the state and the country at large pointing out that no politician in the country ever made it without the support of the women.

Speaking during the occasion, Executive Director, Nigerian Women’s Trust Fund (NWTF) Mrs Mufuliat Fijabi, stressed the need for women to come out and partake in politics in view of the significant roles they play in the society.
