2019: PMT boss denies guber ambition, N5m donation to APC
The Chief Executive Officer of Peace Mass Transit (PMT), Dr. Sam Maduka Onyishi, has denied donating N5 million to the All Progressives Congress, APC, to kick start his governorship ambition as well as bankroll the ruling party’s forthcoming 2019 governorship election in the Enugu State.
The allegation of N5m Daily Times learnt is an indication of Onyishi’s interest to contest 2019 governorship election under the platform of the party in the forthcoming 2019 Enugu State Governorship election.
This paper recalled that Onyishi contested for the ticket of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in 2015 after a similar rumour of his defection to APC played out.
He has however denied the allegation that he gave N5m to APC stressing that he would rather focus on his business and welfare of his staff.
Onyishi told Daily Times in a telephone interview, “there is no truth in the allegation that I donated N5m to APC.
“I am not even worried about politics now, what am worried about is how to improve the welfare of my over four thousand drivers and two thousand members of staff on my payroll as well as my business.
“I would rather concentrate on my business especially in this period of economic recession than to fund any political ambition.
“How can anyone even imagine that I would donate money to fund APC when am struggling to buy 100 vehicles for my transportation business.
“Abi person wey im house dey on fire dey pursue shadow,” he asked in pidgin English.
“My business interest comes before my political interest,” he stressed.
He said he intended to increase salaries of his workers as a means of imparting in their families and dependant especially in this period of economic down turn.
“You can see how workers are losing their jobs across the country; this is not what we want to do. What we want to do is to increase our workers’ salary and give them security for their jobs,” he said.
When contacted the State chairman of APC, Dr. Ben Nwonye, described the alleged donation of N5m by Onyishi as false.
