2019: Nigerians told to vote for courageous leader

Nigerians have been advised to vote for a courageous leader that could tackle the challenges confronting the country without bias.

This advice was given by an author and motivational speaker, Mr Nelson Oru at the Executive Leadership Summit organised for church leaders in Agbara, Lagos.

According to the author of Heaven’s Economy, a courageous leader takes action when he needed to and he’s decisive and leads courageously.

He said Nigerians need such a leader in order to take the country out of the present economic situation.

“When there is no economic subsistence certainly people will exhibit some level of corruption. Corruption happens when people don’t have enough and are living in an economy where they lack basic things of life, they will be looking for a way out especially when government is not able to provide for their needs”, he said.

Oru advised that a government that focuses on people’s welfare should be in the best position to fight corruption stressing that if it is otherwise it will not work.

“Corruption fight is about people’s inclusion to find solution to their problems not using force because leadership is about not using power to enforce compliance, leadership is about looking for people’s needs and dealing with the needs to the roots”, he said.

He also warned that a leader installed by corruption cannot fight corruption adding that the fight against corruption in Nigeria is lopsided. He said: “You can’t fight corruption when you are corrupt”

He urged church leaders also to ensure that their congregation are properly fed with the right word so that they don’t go out looking for greener pastures.

Another speaker at the conference, Prof Victor Ogar of the Africa University of Benin Republic said the conference aims at upgrading the level of thinking of leadership among the participants and create a feeling of possibility through innovative leadership as opposed the traditional system.

“We expect those that have attended to impact their societies in a way that they will now become more of empirical in their thinking and approach to leadership issues”, he said.

One of the participants, Dr Sunday Hunyinbo, the coordinator, Christian Association of Nigeria, Badagry chapter said the summit is so apt and timely because it is what Nigerians need at thus period.

According to him, the major problem facing the country is that of leadership adding that if Nigeria gets it right in the area of leadership, the country will be able to compete favourably in the comity of nations.
