2019: I stand on direct primaries, reiterates Gov Sanni Bello

…Says he has no anointed candidate
Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello of Niger state has restated his stand on direct primaries in the forthcoming primary elections in the state.

He insisted that the decision was taken in the best interest of all stakeholders and for the growth and development of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

This was contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace.

He stated that adoption of direct primaries in the state was in line APC guide lines and in tune with desire of party members.

“APC guide lines allows for direct, indirect or consensus in primaries elections. However, in the State Executive Council, SEC of the party, we resolved to adopt direct primaries for all electives offices.

This collective decision was to ensure fairness, level playing ground and giving all party members sense of belonging. ”

The Governor declared that he remained committed to SEC resolution on direct primaries, also distance himself from anointing of any candidate in the forthcoming primary elections.

“I have consistently made my stand known on the forthcoming primary elections and indeed, the general elections in 2019- that I have no anointed candidate for any elective office. My position has not changed.

I believe that Power belongs to Almighty Allah and he gives it to whoever he wills at any time”.

The Governor urged all party members, aspirants and other stakeholders to take advantage of the direct primaries to grow the party and deepen democracy in the state.
