2019 guber: Abia APC factions mend fences against PDP

The two factions of Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the weekend, unified their structures, resolving to bring to an end the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hegemony.
In a meeting that involved the two factional leaders of the party – including Chief Ikechi Emenike, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, Bar Fabian Nwankwo, Hon Acho Obioma, Chief Nyerere Ayim, among others, the factions resolved to bury their differences and work together and support the leadership of the party, with a view to re-positioning it for 2019.
Speaking with newsmen after the meeting with the leaders and stakeholders who met at the Mission Hill party secretariat, Umuahia, the Chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, said that both factions had realised their mistakes and agreed to end it for the good of the party.
Nwamkpa charged the party members to be fully involved in the restructuring of the party at their various wards and autonomous communities for the challenges ahead such as the general elections in 2019, stating that all party members were joint leaders of the party at their various levels and should therefore not allow it to collapse under their watch.
He said that, “We have all agreed to come together for the good of our great party, therefore every member is expected to work hard to ensure that we remain focused to achieve results of taking over power come 2019”.
He warned Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to sit up or be shamefully beaten “in 2019 when APC will take over Abia State.
Speaking at the event, the APC governorship candidate in the 2015 election, Chief Nyerere Ayim, said the harmonisation had brought to an end the issue of factionalisation, saying, henceforth “no more Emenike group and Nyerere group.” He charged the new team to move the party forward in the spirit of unity.
Former House of Representatives member for Ikwuano/Umuahia Hon Acho Obioma, enjoined the new state working committee to work in the interest of the party and assured new members of right hand of fellowship.
In his remark, the leader of the party in the state, Chief Ikechi Emenike, noted that the sacrifice of the leaders would not be in vain and appealed to members to bury their differences and allow peace to reign in the party.
According to him, “We are one, no discrimination anymore.” He urged the state working committee to unite the party at all levels before going to leaders to solicit financial assistance.
In her remark, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, described the day as a day of joy for the party and for her personally and commended the leaders and members for co-operating for the peace and reconciliation. “We should work together for the success of the party in 2019; we shall take the governorship.”
