2019: APC frustrating opposition parties from running against Buhari – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned as undemocratic, the efforts of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to frustrate other parties from sponsoring candidates that will run against Muhammadu Buhari come 2019.

The party said that part of the strategies mapped out by the APC to ensure that this is carried out is by monitoring the activities of each political party and planting discord within its ranks to ensure that opposition parties are crippled in the country.

This was disclosed by the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan on Thursday in Abuja while addressing the press on the splinter groups that emerged from the PDP.

He said that the APC, having failed in all its efforts to scuttle the PDP National Convention which they claimed, had been adjudged as the best convention ever organised by a political party, the APC is now using all means to prevent the party from becoming a formidable force that will frustrate their plans to re-elect President Buhari in 2019.

“We will not allow APC to distract us. They are so unhappy and unsettled that PDP is progressing and progressing progressively” he said.

On the efforts party to reclaim its lost glory, he said, “We shall commence membership drive across the nation and the National Chairman will even go to the wards to canvass for membership. Nigerians have never suffered the way they are suffering now. This is a government of vengeance”.

On the “Fresh PDP” splinter group, he said, “the issue of a splinter group is a storm in the tea cup. The party under Uche Secondus is one and united. And I can assure you that the issue of the splinter group will be resolved.”

He said that prior to their emergence, two of the members of the group who contested but lost as well as other aspirants who were unsuccessful have been assured that the PDP Reconciliation Committee would meet them in the second week of January, adding that the party will explore all available options and reconcile all aggrieved groups.

He said, “There could be issues but we will sit down as a family to resolve it. The leadership of Secondus is a reconciliatory one.

“We are not begging, we are being reconciliatory. We have become new and very democratic. PDP is a family party. If one of your children misbehaves and goes astray, you go and bring him back. We want to grow our party so that before 2019, APC will run away from Aso Rock.

He stressed that they have information that APC is behind the new aggrieved members.

“Just as APC is monitoring our party, we are also monitoring them but we shall not disclose our strategy. We shall not allow the APC to muzzle us. APC is afraid that we are getting a strong candidate for the 2019.

“Majority of those you see hanging around the APC will come back to their home. APC will go to the poll as an empty party” he maintained.
