1st Taekwondo Championship ends In Calabar

Fourteen States, Nine Clubs, Nigeria Police and Civil Defence team as well as others participated at the 1st Calabar Open Taekwondo Championship held at 520 Kolanut Centre, Barracks Road, Calabar, Cross River State capital.

Speaking with our correspondent shortly after the championship, one of the sister sponsors of the championship, Bishop Usen Umoh, the General Manager Royal International Farms and Estates Limited said that his company in partnership with First Royal Micro Finance Bank, Triple Star Printing Press Limited have decided to sponsor two major championships in the State.

The events according to him includes Calabar Open Taekwondo and Calabar Primary and Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championship explaining that the sponsors’ attitude was a way of giving back to the society and also engaging the youths and students in effective and productive ventures in order to turn their budding energies into more positive ventures.

The competition which featured different weight categories and winners went home with various cash prices and plagues even as Bishop Umoh said that the sponsors are out to ensure that all the athletes discovered at the event would be properly trained and encouraged to continue with the game.

“We are committed to continue sponsoring the competition and make it an annual event with a view to encouraging the youths and to ensure that athletes discovered are properly trained and encouraged” and appealed to cross river state government to provide enable environment for the taekwondo sports to strive.
