15 Adamawa Lawmakers and Speaker Resign From PDP

Fifteen members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly have officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.

This mass resignation comes amid speculations that the state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, is also finalizing plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The Speaker of the House, Bathiya Wesley, formally announced the defections of the lawmakers during the plenary session on Wednesday.

Wesley also revealed that he and his deputy, Buba Jijiwa, have decided to quit the ruling party in the state.

The lawmakers stated that their decision to leave the party was primarily due to the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP.

“All the letters contained the same message. The PDP members cited the crisis at the national level of the party as the main reason for their decision to quit,” the Speaker explained.

Despite their sudden exit, Wesley noted that the lawmakers expressed gratitude to their former party.

“They commended the PDP for giving them the opportunity to contest and win elections on the platform of the party,” he added.

The lawmakers who recently resigned from the party include Kefas Calvin, Bulus Geoffrey, Haruna Jilantikiri, Kefas Emmanuel, Ahmed Belel, Moses Zah, Kate Mamuno, Pwamwakeno Mackondo, Adun Alaba, Bulus Kantom, Musa Kallamu, and Japhet Hammanjabu.

Their departure follows the resignation of another lawmaker, Abubakar Abdullahi, representing the Girei state constituency, who quit the PDP on Tuesday.

The lawmakers have reportedly moved to the APC, although they are yet to formally announce their new political affiliation.

Meanwhile, Governor Fintiri recently hosted leaders of the APC in the state to an iftar at the government house in Yola.

During the gathering, the governor stated that the meeting was aimed at enhancing dialogue, fostering closer cooperation, and reaffirming a shared commitment to peace and sustainable development in Adamawa State.
