14 feared dead , others maimed as herdsmen attack Edo community

Benin city — No fewer than 14 persons have been gruesomely murdered and others maimed during a deadly attack by suspected herdsmen in Odiguetue community in Edo State .

As the number of victims continues to increase, it was said that many more were said to have been displaced while others are declared missing after the suspected herdsmen launched a fierce attack on Odiguetue community ,an Agriarian community in Ovia North East local government area of Edo state on April 9th 2022.

The Odionwere of the community Elder Johnson Otobiokhai told journalists that the attack which led to the gruesome killing and displacement of others happened on early hours of Thursday morning.

According to the Odionwere, the entire community was thrown into mourning as following the gruesome of the 14 members of the community.

It was gathered that the herdsmen came into the community farmland on motorbikes and attacked the community by shooting sporadically .

An eye-witness account said that the herdsmen in their numbers marched towards the community where they massacred some of the local inhabitants as others reportedly scampered for safety.

The recent attack on Odiguetue community has led to many families counting their losses over the gruesome murder of their loved ones, and others were severely wounded while many remain missing.

A source in the community who pleaded anonymity claimed that the police and military authorities were called upon during the attack as the herdsmen were said to have reportedly gone before the arrival of the security operatives.

Meanwhile, confirmed report also revealed that Odiguetue community since 2015 have been under repeated attacks by the same heavily armed herdsmen.

At the time of filing in this report, it was said that amongst those declared missing after the gruesome murder include the children of Pa. Igbiniedion namely Osamuyi , Praises , Glory , Faith and his wife Patience are missing.

Also among those declared missing are Chief.Omokaro Stanley, his son Omokaro Jude.

Another community leader lamented the wanton loss of lives the community have suffered since 2015 , which has ultimately led to forceful displacements in the community , as there are clear indications that government was planning to improve the security situation in the community, it was gathered.
